What we do: The First Nation Food Security Project.

The First Nation Food Security Project supports Indigenous Australians in South East Queensland and northern NSW to live healthy lives through access to nutritional food & education. The First Nation Food Security Project develops, mentors and advances the participation of communities in the food and health economy so we can make further strides towards ‘closing the gap’.

We work directly with First Nations People who are facing food insecurity in NSW and QLD.

The First Nation Food Security Project has two components…

Targeted distribution of free, delicious and nutritious frozen meals cooked at FareShare at scale. Distributed with consultation & sensitivity to Indigenous communities facing food insecurity.

We currently distribute food to the following organisations:

  • Kalwun Indigenous Medical Clinics

  • Family participation & domestic family violence program

  • Bugalwena Indigenous Medical Clinic

  • Minjungbal Aboriginal Cultural Centre

  • Fred’s Place

  • Gold Coast Youth Service

  • Gold Coast Project for

  • Homeless Youth

  • Yhes House

  • Bryant Place

  • Set Free Care

  • Community Hub

  • Surfers Paradise Anglican Crisis Care

  • The Foyer

  • Arrival Lodge

  • Toogoolawa School

The second phase is currently in development and is a culturally engaging education program that equips participants with nutritional education & employment pathways.

Elements of the program include:

  • Nutrition  Participants learn nutritional knowledge and grow their own vegetables.

  • Education  Formal education in hospitality.

  • Employment  Support to transition to employment within the hospitality & food industry.

 Our dream is..

to be a leading provider of culturally engaging training that enables First Nations People to lead healthy and ambitious lives through mentorship, hands-on education in cooking, nutrition & food security.

While we are Indigenous focused, the meals we provide are for the community and we do not draw a distinction between those in need, no matter their cultural background.
